The Great Debate of Anime – Sub or Dub?

Hello to all!

If you’ve watched anime for any good amount of time, you’ll know about the burning question that our community keeps asking ; Sub or Dub?

maxresdefault

There are people who will only watch dubbed anime, no matter what you say the them, and there are other you will essentially praise the original Japanese version of a series as if it’s a divine gift from God Himself.

There is only one thing I can say to this entire debate…

Just watch whichever one want to watch!

It’s that simple! Let other people watch what they want, and everyone’s happy.

Personally, I don’t care about whether a series is a dub or sub. Granted, I prefer the characters to speak in my language (English), but if there is no dub available, watching the sub is no problem for me.

Besides, there are a lot of anime series out there that will probably never be dubbed in the foreseeable future, so being adaptable works out in the long run.

Having said that, there are certain cases where a series itself lends to being dubbed. Such a case is Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure .

The first two parts of this series, Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency, take place in England and America, respectively, and the characters grew up in these countries. Thus, it would make sense for the series to be dubbed, sense none of the characters have any reason to know Japanese beforehand.

What do you think? Are for sub or dub? Leave a comment below. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Until next time, Stay Awesome!

  1. I’m more for sub but I don’t mind dub (mostly). I also know that when watching with some of my friends, they’ll only watch dub. I agree that it really is whatever you want to watch and it really doesn’t need to be an argument.

  2. I’m with you that people should just watch in the language that they prefer. I personally like watching in original Japanese, with or without subs, just because I’m comfortable with the language itself. However, I’m not against dubs unlike the other Japanese language audio subbed only purists out there. I’ve watched some anime in English dubs, in Tagalog (Filipino) dubs, and even an anime in Mandarin dub, and I’m all comfortable with them. However, I also get what the Team Subs are saying, that the quality of some dubs are bad. But I think that it’s unfair to say that ALL dubs are crap. I’m quite impressed with a lot of dubs by Funimation. A lot of their voice actors and actresses are top-notch, and the translations from Japanese are good, unlike. . .y-know. . .(whispers) 4Kids. (cough cough)

As long as you understand what’s going in the anime and you enjoy it, it doesn’t matter in which language you’re watching it in. Not all of us have the patience to read the subs, while hearing Japanese which some fans aren’t proficient in. This war between subs and dubs is just a matter of personal preference.
